Physician's Perceived EMR-Communication Fit: Towards Developing A Measurement Instrument
نویسندگان
چکیده
In this research we define the construct 'physician's perceived fit 'which refers to the fit between the EMR (Electronic Medical Record) system and the task of establishing effective communication with the patient during the medical encounter in primary care. This is the first stage of a study aimed at developing and examining a validated measurement instrument for this construct. Effective physicianpatient communication (PPC) during a medical interview was found as a critical factor for the success of the patient's treatments. Since the introduction of the EMR system to clinics, there is a possible negative influence of the system on the physician's ability to establish effective communication. If this is true then it is likely that the fit between the EMR system and the task of establishing PPC is suboptimal. Perceived fit in this context is defined as "The degree to which a physician believes that use of the EMR system during the medical encounter supports establishing effective communication with the patient." We identified four factors as composing the construct's content domain: Sharing information, Task-Flow Support, Ease of Use and Information quality. This study serves as the foundation for developing a measurement instrument for the Fit construct.

Enhancing patient-doctor-computer communication in primary care: towards measurement construction
OBJECTIVE The traditional dyadic dynamics of the medical encounter has been altered into a triadic relationship by introducing the computer into the examination room. This study defines Patient-Doctor-Computer Communication (PDCC) as a new construct and provides an initial validation process of an instrument for assessing PDCC in the computerized exam room: the e-SEGUE. MATERIAL AND METHODS B...

Trust in physicians is the patient's optimistic acceptance of vulnerability and the expectation that the physician will do what is best for his/her welfare. This study was undertaken to develop a conceptual understanding of the dimensions and determinants of trust in physicians in healthcare settings in resource-poor, developing countries. A cross-sectional household survey was conducted on a s...

متن کاملDevelopment and Validation of an Instrument to Measure the Service-Channel Fit of Electronic Banking Services
Electronically mediated self-service technologies in the banking industry have impacted the way banks service consumers. Despite a large body of research on electronic banking channels, no study has been undertaken to empirically explore the fit between electronic banking channels and banking services. Therefore, we developed and validated a service-channel fit conceptualization and an associat...
متن کاملDo Risk Perceptions Influence Physician's Resistance to Use Electronic Medical Records? An Exploratory Research in German Hospitals
IT in health care can lower the cost of health care delivery, improve the quality of care for patients and reduce medical errors. Given these strong advantages, it is interesting that technology diffusion for process support in hospitals is somewhat slow. The major process of a hospital -delivering patient careis still supported by traditional paper files in the vast majority of German hospital...
